In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "faith is taking the first step when you don't see the whole staircase." That statement accurately provides the context for the remarkable journey of discovery and revelation of Solanges Vivens. This mesmerizing adventure began with a simple question that asked why she shared the name of a 9th century martyred saint in France. From that rather innocent introspection grew a marvelous expedition that eventually took her from her home in Washington, D.C., across continents and cultures, and allowed her to travel through centuries, to stumble  upon a connection in both spirit and in sisterhood with Saint Solange of Bourges, France.

As Solanges traveled on this journalistic and soul-searching expedition, she depended upon spiritual guidance to direct her and a strong Catholic faith to sustain her.  This book shows how she was compelled to move from her comfort zone into areas of the unknown. It shows how she traveled through the valley of mystery to the mountain of spiritual meaning. It tells how, through her initial research and later travels to France, she found amazing parallels between her own life as a Haitian-born French-speaking girl and woman of faith, and the life of Saint Solange, a young French shepherdess who was martyred as a result of her religious beliefs. It also illustrates how the modern Solanges and the martyred Solange both followed the path of healing and ministering to those in need.

This is a book of both mystery and miracles. The reader will encounter incredible examples of both. In all, this book will encourage all of us who feel a tug on our spirit or a dream in our heart, to take the first steps even when we can't see the whole staircase. It is amazing what God can do through the efforts of the faithful and the willing. What about you?
